Twin Cities personalities trust HRI.
Local broadcasters, journalists, and on-camera personalities choose HRI for their hair restoration. Here's what some of them say.
"I've struggled with seasonal hair loss and received a one-time treatment with exosomes and growth factors last fall. The results have been incredible — I'm seeing so much new growth, and even my hairdresser recently commented on how much thicker my hair has become."
"I had a wonderful experience at HRI. Hair replacement was something I had been contemplating for a long time. Upon my first meeting with Nate, I felt comfortable from the start. The staff walked me through procedure day with ease, and the process itself only took a few hours. The recovery hasn't been bad, and I'm already excited about my progress only two days post surgery."
"I know these guys. I trust these guys."
"I turned back the clock — permanently!"
"Let HRI change your life."
"I love my engagement photos."
"Best people top to bottom! From my initial consultation, to my surgery with Dr. Petrus — everything here is first class. My comfort was always a high priority during the procedure — the nurses Nicole, Tatyana and Cindy were truly amazing. No pain, no discomfort, just an awesome experience."
"Hair restoration changed my life. When I first started losing my hair, I hid under a hat — but you can't perform the National Anthem or in a church like that. Since my procedure, I feel so confident now when I perform in public. Plus, I'm booking more gigs! I owe so much to Hair Restoration Institute of Minnesota."
Understanding androgenetic alopecia.
Pattern hair loss isn't aging, stress, or bad shampoo. It's a hormone — DHT — acting on a genetic blueprint you inherited. The good news: we can interrupt the process.
It's the most common cause — and the most treatable when caught early.
~30 million women too. The gene that codes for sensitivity is dominant.
Untreated, the average progression. We can stop it on day one.
A hormone called DHT shrinks your follicles.
Testosterone is converted to dihydrotestosterone (DHT) by the enzyme 5α-reductase. In genetically susceptible follicles, DHT binds to androgen receptors and triggers a slow, year-by-year miniaturization — the hair grows thinner, shorter, and lighter until the follicle stops producing visible hair entirely.
dht-diagram.jpg into the hair-loss/ folder to display the diagram here.Sensitivity to DHT is determined by genetics. The follicles at the back and sides of the scalp (your "donor area") are DHT-resistant for life — which is why a hair transplant works.
Finasteride blocks 5α-reductase, so less testosterone becomes DHT. Less DHT means less miniaturization. It's a faucet shutoff at the source.
The Norwood & Ludwig scales — knowing where you stand.
Hair loss progresses in predictable patterns. The pattern depends on how your follicles fail (the row, 1–5), and the severity depends on how far the process has run (the column, Class 1–7). Identifying your stage tells us how much hair we can save with medication, and how many grafts you'd need to restore.
norwood-scale.jpg into the hair-loss/ folder to display the chart here.Mild. Medication alone often holds the line — Compound FM may be all you need for years.
Moderate. The sweet spot for a transplant — donor area is still rich, results are dramatic.
Advanced. Restoration is still possible, but graft planning becomes critical — we'll show you what's realistic.
Compound FM — the once-daily pill we make in-house.
Three proven medications, compounded into a single capsule taken once per day. No stacking pills, no missed doses, no guesswork on dosing. We administer, renew, and monitor it for you — included in every treatment package, or available standalone for clients who want to start now.
Not ready to commit to a transplant? Put $300 down and begin Compound FM today. We administer the medication, track your progress, and apply the full $300 to any future treatment package you choose.
- Compound FM administration & renewal
- HairMetrix scans to track follicle density
- Quarterly progress reviews with your consultant
- Full $300 credit toward any future treatment
Finasteride is FDA-approved for men only. Pregnant or potentially pregnant women should not handle the medication. Your consultant will review your medical history before prescribing.
Hair Transplant — FUE & FUT
The only permanent restoration option. We move healthy follicles from the back and sides (the donor area, which is not susceptible to DHT) into thinning zones. The transplanted hair is yours — and it stays.
Two approaches to harvesting grafts
FUE
- Tiny 0.7mm punch — smaller than the industry standard 1.0–1.25mm
- No linear scar — pinhole healing across the donor area
- Hair must be trimmed short for the procedure
- Heals in roughly 7 days
- Best for patients who shave their head or wear hair short
FUT (Strip)
- Donor strip removed from the occipital area, sutured
- Faint linear scar — visible only at military buzz length
- Hair length is preserved on the day of surgery
- Sutures removed 12–14 days post-op
- Best for patients who wear longer hair styles
Our FUE punch is smaller than industry standard.
Most clinics use a 1.0mm or 1.25mm punch. HRI uses a 0.7mm. Smaller punches mean less scarring, faster healing, and a more natural-looking donor area at any hair length.
What recovery looks like
Procedure
One day, 7–8 hours, local anesthetic. Watch TV, read, or sleep.
Hat OK
Loose clean baseball cap. Sleep semi-upright the first 3 nights.
Back to work
Most patients return after 5–7 days. Slight redness and scabbing.
Visible growth
The transplanted hair is visibly growing. Major milestone.
Full result
Final result. Backed by our permanent clinical guarantee — for life.
Eyebrow & beard transplants
The same FUE technique applied to the face. Touch-ups, fill-ins, and full reconstruction are all available.

$14,749 total — or about $20/day with Cherry's 24-month interest-free option, locking in for one year.
Pricing: $5.50/graft for the first 2,500 + $3/graft thereafter, plus $999 medication fee. Inclusive of laser therapy, checkups for one year, and the permanent clinical guarantee.
PRP, Growth Factors & Exosomes
The cutting edge in hair restoration science. These therapies harness the regenerative power of cellular-derived proteins, extracellular vesicles, and tissue matrices to stimulate hair follicles, improve scalp health, and restore thinning hair.
Three regenerative options
PRP uses your own blood. Growth Factors and Exosomes use ethically-sourced umbilical-cord–derived signaling proteins. All three can be combined.
Platelet-Rich Plasma
A small vial of your own blood, spun in a centrifuge to concentrate platelets. The platelet-rich plasma is then injected into the scalp, where the growth factors stimulate hair follicles. Includes complimentary LLLT laser session and RX support.
Growth Factor Matrix
Protein-rich signaling environment that supports structural healing of the scalp and hair follicles. Best for moderate hair loss (Norwood 3–5). Can be added to PRP or used standalone for amplified results.
Exosome Therapy
Microscopic extracellular vesicles that act as cell-to-cell messengers, carrying growth factors, proteins, mRNA, and microRNA. Most powerful regenerative option. One session is usually sufficient. Best for higher-grade hair loss (Norwood 6–7) or those considering transplant.
How they work, biologically
Cellular communication
Signaling proteins reprogram weakened follicle cells into a regenerative state.
Anti-inflammatory action
Downregulates the immune signals that drive follicle miniaturization.
Angiogenesis
New capillary formation increases oxygen and nutrient delivery to follicles.
Stem-cell activation
Activates dermal papilla cells and bulge-area stem cells — the biological command centers driving hair growth.
The growth factors at work
PRP and Exosomes deliver a concentrated cocktail of signaling proteins. These are the key players and what each contributes to hair regrowth.
Who's a candidate for Exosomes
- Men and women in early to moderate stages of hair thinning
- Patients who haven't responded well to PRP or topical treatments alone
- Individuals seeking a non-surgical alternative to transplantation
- Diffuse hair loss, friction-related alopecia, or inflammation-driven thinning
- Patients with autoimmune-sensitive scalps where other options aren't suitable
- Add-on enhancement to a hair transplant for accelerated results

See it in motion
Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP)
A non-intrusive treatment that uses precision needles to add color into the scalp, recreating the appearance of hair follicles for a natural, fuller look. Excellent on its own, or as a complement to a hair transplant.
Who is a candidate
Excellent for:
- Men and women wanting added density in specific areas
- People with shaved heads who want a more defined hairline
- Individuals with alopecia (various forms)
- Patients hiding burns, scars, or birthmarks
- Camouflaging strip transplant scarring or FUE/FUT scarring
- Plug scarring or scarring alopecia
- Those not yet candidates for hair transplant surgery
How it differs from a tattoo:
- Specialized pigments designed for the scalp — not permanent tattoo ink
- Pigments fade over 5–7 years; refresh as needed
- Needles are custom-made to the width of a human hair
- Penetrates only into the second dermal layer — minimal discomfort
- Trained technicians ensure each area has the correct follicle pattern
- Pigments are custom-blended to match your natural hair color

Why Turkey costs more than $3,000.
The sticker price is the smallest number in the equation. Here's what the package actually costs — in money, in time, and in risk.
~6,000 viable grafts in a lifetime. A bad first procedure spends 70%+ of that with nothing to show. There is no second well.
High-volume Turkish "clinics" run 4–6 patients per surgeon per day. Technicians — not the marketed doctor — extract and place your grafts.
If grafts don't grow at month 12, there is no follow-up, no guarantee, no recourse, and no surgeon you can reach from Minnesota.
Home tonight, or home next week?
The flight home is the part the clinic doesn't mention. Your scalp is freshly grafted, your head is wrapped, you can't lie back, you can't shower, and you're 30,000 feet above the Atlantic if anything bleeds, swells, or gets infected.
A 2,000-graft procedure, fully costed.

The Turkey package looks $4,999 cheaper — until it isn't. A failed result costs $25,999 all-in — more than 2× the HRI price — and you'll still spend the next year growing your hair back from a shaved head.
Four facts worth knowing before you book.
Multiple documented deaths during hair transplants in Istanbul clinics from 2018 onward, covered by BBC, Sky News, and The Guardian. Hair transplant is surgery — anesthesia, infection, and cardiac events are real.
"Exercise increased caution in Turkey." Your travel insurance and U.S. health insurance both behave differently under an active advisory. Check before you book.
The International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) created the "Black Market Hair Restoration Task Force" specifically to warn patients about unlicensed and technician-run Turkish clinics.
The Feb 2023 M7.8 quake displaced staff, snarled supply chains, and pulled experienced personnel into emergency response. Aftershocks and clinic-staffing instability persist.
